CHICAGO, Ill. -- North Park University hosted its inaugural home flag football game on Friday afternoon, welcoming Illinois Wesleyan to the Holmgren Athletic Complex for a historic first contest on campus. Despite moments of promise and several strong individual efforts, the Vikings fell 27-0 in their home debut.
Illinois Wesleyan struck early in the second quarter with a 51-yard touchdown pass and added three additional scores—two in the third quarter and one in the fourth—to seal the matchup. The Titans' offense relied heavily on a balanced attack, combining effective passing and timely rushing plays. Quarterback Emma Caniglia led the visitors with four touchdown passes and 173 yards through the air, complemented by 52 rushing yards. Illinois Wesleyan's defense also proved formidable, generating five sacks for a loss of 22 total yards.
North Park showed resiliency across four quarters, producing 111 total offensive yards, including several key completions from quarterback Janiya Greenfield, who accounted for all 99 of the Vikings' passing yards. Receivers Ava Balmaseda, Jayla Johnson, Ashley Wilson, and Aiyana Connolly highlighted the passing game with steady gains that kept drives alive. On defense, Amber Bock led the Vikings with seven solo tackles, while Yamile Belmontes, Aurora Drangevag, and Ashley Wilson added multiple stops to keep the Titans in check.
Special teams also provided bright spots for North Park, as punter Olivia Eriksson averaged 36.3 yards per attempt, including a long of 48 yards and one punt placed inside the 20-yard line.
