Chicago, Il., -- North Park Men's Basketball staged a valiant second-half comeback on Saturday afternoon at Carlson Gymnasium, but ultimately fell to the Elmhurst Bluejays by a final score of 81-75. Despite outscoring their the Bluejays 45-36 in the second half, the Vikings were unable to fully erase a double-digit halftime deficit. The loss moves North Park to a 10-6 record and 3-4 in CCIW play, as they now look to regroup for their next conference test.
The Bluejays jumped out to a fast start in the first half, utilizing a potent interior game that saw them rack up 40 points in the paint throughout the contest. Elmhurst built a significant 45-30 lead by the break, led by a dominant performance from Dominic Trelenberg, who finished with a career-high and game-high 32 points and 8 rebounds. North Park struggled to find their rhythm early, but the tide began to turn in the second half as the Vikings' defensive pressure and bench depth began to take its toll on the visitors.
North Park's offensive effort was anchored by senior guard Mike Vuckovic, who poured in 18 points on an efficient 8-13 shooting, while also leading the team with 4 assists. He was joined in double figures by Kolden Vanlandingham, who contributed 17 points and 4 rebounds, including 7-11 from the free-throw line. The Vikings' bench also provided a massive spark, outscoring the Bluejays' reserves 25-10.
