ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) action is just what the doctor ordered for North Park Women's Soccer. The Vikings took a 2-1 win over Augustana on Saturday afternoon at Thorson-Lucken Field in their conference opener.
North Park had to battle back down one goal in the 13th minute after Augustana's Jordyn Swanson found the net to start the scoring. North Park had six shots to Augustana's two in the first half and did not get a corner kick chance, trailing 1-0 at halftime.
The Vikings from Chicago would mount their comeback midway through the second half. Senior midfielder Stine Lie connected with freshman midfielder Sofia Svensson in the 69th minute for the equalizer before junior midfielder Hannah Björkegren found Svensson again in the 75th minute for the go-ahead and final goal of the match.
The stats rightly showed how North Park played in its conference-opening win: North Park outshot Augustana 16-5 including 14-5 on goal and forced a dozen saves from the Augie goalkeeper. Senior forward Caroline Sjøstedt, Bjørkegren, and Lie all tallied multiple shots on target while senior goalkeeper Paige MacRitchie secured her first CCIW win with four saves.
