ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- North Park Softball lost a doubleheader on the road to Augustana College on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings from Rock Island took game one 6-4 and game two 12-4.
Augustana posted the first two runs of the game on a two-run homer by Maciejews in the second, but the Vikings got a pair back in the third. With two outs, freshman left fielder Kaylie Pereira walked and singles from Bella Frohwirth and Maddy Tan loaded the bases. Next, Kayla Lorenz delivered a two-run single to center, tying the game 2-2.
Unfortunately, Augie tallied two more runs in the third on three hits, a walk, and a fielder's choice.
Tan cracked her first home run of the season in the fifth and a sac fly by Frohwirth in the seventh pulled NPU closer, but an RBI single for Maciejews in the fifth and a fielder's choice in the sixth gave Augie the 6-4 win.
In the second game, Augie put a run on the board in their first trip to the plate with Gradin's RBI double. The Blue & Gold from Chicago banged out a four-run third on Kathryn Keehn's sac fly, a Frohwirth's RBI single, and a two-run single by Pereira. However, this high was short-lived as Augie batted around in the fourth, scoring seven runs. They added a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth to sweep the doubleheader with a 12-4 win.
Tan finished the doubleheader 4-for-6 with a home run and double to lead the NPU offense.
