WAUKESHA, Wis. – North Park Softball went all the way into the ninth inning to beat Carroll University 4-3 in game one before falling to the Pioneers in game two, 6-2. Freshman pitcher Raquel Hare went all nine innings for NPU, scattering six hits while allowing just one earned run.
Game One, North Park 4, Carroll 3
Carroll took an early lead in the first inning, scoring one run on Dusza's RBI single. North Park answered in the fourth inning with a home run by junior third baseman Kathryn Keehn, followed by an RBI single from junior right fielder Sydner Snyder to NPU up, 2-1.
Carroll tied the game in the sixth inning on Stanchina's RBI single up the middle, plating Buske. A scoreless seventh forced extras, as Hare kept the ball in the next two frames.
The ninth inning was decisive, with North Park scoring two runs thanks to a double by junior shortstop Kayla Lorenz and a single by Keehn, giving NPU a 4-2 advantage.
Carroll managed to score one more run in the bottom of the ninth on an outfielder error, but Hare got the next batter out on a flyout to left, securing the 4-3 win.
Lorenz cracked a pair of doubles at the plate while Keehn drove in a pair and drew a couple walks.
Game Two: Carroll 6, North Park 2
In game two, the Pioneers put a three-spot on the board in the second and never gave the lead back, limiting NPU to five hits in the game.
The Pioneers got more of a burst from a solo homer by Hoagland. Snyder's RBI double in the fourth and a sac fly from senior second baseman Maddy Tan represented the Vikings' only two runs as they fell in game two, 6-2.
What's Next?
North Park (14-16, 3-7 CCIW) returns home on Monday, April 21, for its final non-conference doubleheader of the season, playing the Kalamazoo College Hornets. Game one's first pitch is set for 3:00 PM at Holmgren.
