Game Recap: Softball | | Tyler Woolbright

Vikings swept on day three of Dot Richardson Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- North Park Softball couldn't limit the blow-up innings in a pair of losses on Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings fell to New England College, 9-6, in game one before a 7-4 loss to Utica.

Against the Pilgrims, things were going well for the Vikings as the struck for four runs in their first go around. That first inning featured RBI doubles for junior shortstop Kayla Lorenz and junior left fielder Sydney Snyder, alongside RBI singles for junior third baseman Kathryn Keehn and junior catcher Katie Patton.

However, the wheels fell off for NPU in the top of the second. New England manufactured eight runs off four hits, an infield error, and four free passes to charge ahead, 8-4.

The Pilgrims scored another run in the sixth, as NPU faced a 9-4 deficit going into their final trip to the plate. Keehn doubled home Lorenz and Patton pushed Keehn across the plate on a run-scoring triple, but that's where the scoring would end - 9-6 Pilgrims.

The Utica game featured a tough third inning for the Vikings, who were plagued by the walk once more. Five walks and two hits let the Pioneers grow their lead from 1-0 to 6-0 as North Park needed to get something going at the plate.

The Vikings chipped away with Lorenz' RBI single in the fifth and run scoring grounders by freshman Katelyn Meyer and junior Eden Baker in the sixth but still trailed, 7-3. Keehn cracked a double to left field in the seventh and scored on an outfield error in the inning, but that lone run would not be enough as NPU fell, 7-4.

North Park Notables
  • Keehn cracks a pair of doubles and scores three runs in the doubleheader
  • Lorenz 4-for-8 on the day with a pair of doubles against New England
  • Patton with a triple and pair of RBI against the Pilgrims
