Women's Soccer falls in CCIW Championship to top-seeded North Central

Vikings conclude historic season in CCIW finals

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- In a decisive performance at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, conference champion North Central overwhelmed North Park with a 4-0 victory. The Cardinals, who fired 16 shots on goal, will advance to the NCAA playoffs while North Park concludes its historic season.

From the opening whistle, North Central asserted control, peppering North Park's senior goalkeeper Paige MacRitchie with a barrage of shots. Within the first 20 minutes, North Central had already taken nine shots, five of which were on target. MacRitchie stood tall early, making several key saves, including three from standout forward Jordan Lange.

The breakthrough came in the 19th minute when Lucy Burke, subbed in just moments earlier, capitalized on a well-placed assist from Kara Waishwell to slot home the opening goal. The momentum snowballed quickly. Just five minutes later, Gabriella Mattio doubled the lead with a clinical finish off a setup from Kassandra Salviola and Lange. North Central's Salviola added a third goal in the 25th minute, assisted by Madison DeVriendt, capping a three-minute scoring spree that left North Park reeling.

North Park struggled to respond, managing only five shots in the first half, with MacRitchie's nine saves keeping the scoreline from ballooning further. Their best chance came in the 26th minute when CCIW Newcomer of the Year Sofia Svensson fired a shot on goal, but North Central's keeper Lily Mattison was equal to the task.

The second half began with renewed intensity from North Central. Just two minutes in, Lange found the back of the net for her 11th goal of the season, sealing the 4-0 scoreline. Lange was a constant threat throughout, recording eight shots (six on goal) and contributing an assist.

Despite North Park's increased offensive efforts in the second half, including 11 shots and three corner kicks, they failed to convert. Mattison remained impenetrable, finishing with three saves and earning the shutout while the NCC defense consistently deflected anything out of their box.

The Vikings conclude their season with a record of 10-9, their most accomplished season in program history with plenty to recap.
