St. Louis, MO., -- North Football Football (3-5, 2-5) went south to face the Washington University Bears (6-2, 5-2) in St. Louis, both teams looking to make it two wins in a row.
The Vikings opened the game with an electric kickoff return touchdown from Jereme Ombogo, taking it back 97 yards to give North Park the early 7-0 lead after Drayden Wilcox's extra point make. Following the return touchdown the Viking defense forced a punt right away from the Bears' offense. But North Park's offense couldn't get much of anything to work throughout the first half while WashU go into a rhythm quickly after their first punt. Bears quarterback Levi Moore found receiver Makael Carter for their first score to tie the game at 7-7 near the end of the first quarter, getting the offense rolling. WashU would go on to score three more touchdowns in the second quarter, extending their lead to 28-7 going into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Vikings' defense tightened up, limiting WashU to just fourteen points in both the third and fourth quarter as well as moving the ball offensively. Quarterback Carson Lewis completed 11 of 23 passes for 162 yards, including a 56-yard completion to receiver Niko Armstead-Lehti III. Senior receiver Wesley McCloud hauled in five passes for 83 yards, while Micah Catron and Dylan Spedale combined for seven receptions. Spedale, who is listed as a quarterback, has been used recently as a Swiss army knife for the Viking offense these last two weeks; today he had four receptions for 46 yards and 1 rush for 4 yards. However, the Vikings struggled to establish the ground game, finishing with just -34 rushing yards against a stout WashU defensive front.
With just one game left, the Vikings look to end their season on a high but will have a tall task at hand as they host #18 Wheaton College for Senior Day next week.
