Appleton, Wis. – The North Park women's basketball team opened its 2025–26 campaign on the road Friday night, dropping a hard-fought 61–47 decision to Lawrence University inside Alexander Gym. Despite a slow start offensively, the Vikings battled throughout the contest, led by junior forward Caroline Long's double-digit performance in her season debut.
The Vikings came out with energy, taking an early 10–7 lead behind baskets from sophomore guard Naomi Kaskavitch and junior guard Aliyah Hershberger, along with a three-pointer from newcomerLayla Murry. Their defense held firm early, limiting the Lawrence to just 4-of-14 shooting in the first quarter. However, Lawrence had a second-quarter surge — fueled by a 15–2 run — to seize control of the game and carry a 27–19 lead into halftime.
The third quarter proved pivotal as Lawrence's offense continued to stay in its rhythm. Guard Kate Adams led the home team with a game-high 24 points, shooting 8-for-14 from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers. She was joined by Josie Chose who added 11 points and 8 rebounds, and Charlotte Brennan, who contributed 10 points, 5 boards, and 3 assists. Lawrence extended its advantage to double digits by the end of the third quarter, outscoring North Park 21–9 in the frame.
Despite the deficit, North Park refused to quit. In the fourth quarter, the Vikings found more offensive flow, outscoring Lawrence 19–13 in the final period. Caroline Long led North Park with 13 points and 7 rebounds, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Hershberger added 10 points, 2 assits, and a steal while Teresa Morrissey knocked down 3 three points. Kaskavitch and senior Kathryn Keehn combined for 7 points and 8 boards to round out the starters.
As a team, the Vikings shot 31% (17/55) from the field and 40% (6/15) from three-point range while holding Lawrence to 23-of-54 (43%) shooting. North Park grabbed 33 rebounds, including nine on the offensive glass, but was hindered by 16 turnovers that led to 20 Lawrence points. Lawrence capitalized in the paint, scoring 28 inside, while North Park's bench chipped in 17 points in a strong collective effort.
North Park will look to bounce back in its home opener next week at the Holmgren Athletic Complex, as the Vikings host their first non-conference match up of the season.
