NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- After scoring three of North Park's four goals last week, junior midfielder Nico Chavez reeled in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Offensive Player of the Week honors on Tuesday morning. Chavez is the fifth different Viking to appear on the league's weekly honor roll this season.
Chavez was the catalyst for North Park's win at Carroll and scored the first goal in a close 3-2 loss to #19 U-Chicago on Wednesday. Against the Maroons, Chavez found the back of the net by diving headfirst from a spilled shot off the foot of Mathias Soerum, putting NPU out front 1-0. Against the Pios, once more, Chavez would get an assist from Soerum in the 59th minute to equalize the match and later, in the 83rd minute, he would head Hugo Neborg's corner kick in to give the Vikings a 2-1 victory. He aided the North Park defense in that match against Carroll by allowing only three shots on goal.
Chavez and company are back in action this Wednesday, October 22, traveling to UW-Platteville for their last non-conference match of the regular season.
