BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – North Park Women's Tennis swept through the Carroll Pioneers in the first round of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championships on Thursday afternoon. The Vikings, who played Carroll to a close 5-4 win back on October 1, made short work of the Pioneers with a 5-0 win.
#1 singles player Hanna Zethraeus, who recently landed in the "in consideration" category for rankings in Region VI had advantage in her match with a 6-1 lead. #2 singles Alexandra Ristfeldt and #3 singles Katarina Carlberg had the advantage 6-0 and 6-2, respectively, while #4 singles player Carla Cazes was one of two players to get a full match in with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. #5 singles Maddie Starr also played a full match, winning 6-0, 6-1. #6 singles Kate Vinson was ahead in set two, 1-0, after dropping set one 6-3.
In doubles play, all three Viking duos won. #1 pairing of Ristfeldt and Carlberg won, 8-4, #2 Zethraeus and Cazes won, 8-5, and Starr/ Ella Darrow secured the doubles sweep with another 8-5 win.

This playoff win is the first of its kind for NPU Tennis while also establishing their first shutout win in the CCIW Tournament.

The Vikings advance to the semifinals to face second-seeded Wheaton College on Friday, April 26, at 1:30 PM. The Vikings, who were knocked out of the 2023 Tournament by the Thunder, look for revenge at Evergreen Racquet Club with hopes to advance to Saturday's championship match.
