CHICAGO, Ill. – The North Park men's volleyball team lost both their matches during Saturday's hosted tri-match. The Vikings dropped a four-set match to the Wittenberg Tigers (21-25, 25-22, 22-25, 14-25) before being swept in the evening match by the Aurora Spartans (25-18, 25-21, 25-22).
Against the Tigers, junior outside hitter Ty Ingrao led the Vikings and all hitters with 20 kills, a new career high for him, which are tied for the third-most all-time and ties for second-most in four-set matches, according to the Viking Record Book. Incidentally, Ingrao's 20 points also ranks third-highest in four-set matches.
Wittenberg utilized seven blocks against the Vikings, holding the hosts to just a .176 mark in the opener. Meanwhile, the Tigers, who slowed with a .158 hitting percentage in the second set, climbed to .310 on the night with 49 kills.
Against a battle-tested Spartan team, the Vikings managed to dig out 41 attacks, good for ninth-most in NPU history. However, once more, Aurora managed to block the Vikings seven time while also hitting over .300 (.308). The Vikings hit just .129 (23K, 20E, 101TA) but managed five aces. The quality service came from Ingrao (2), senior setter Teddy Gedville (1), senior utility player Christian Ayar (1), and sophomore outside hitter Pablo Ocasio (1).
