Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Craigh Shelton

North Park falls to Wheaton 68-35

Vikings drop third straight with Thunder loss

WHEATON, Ill. -- The North Park's Women's Basketball Team (3-5, 0-2) looked to turn their two-game losing skid around to secure a CCIW win against the Thunder of Wheaton College (5-5, 1-1) who also dropped their last two. However, the Thunder defended home court with a 68-35 win.

Wheaton got the ball rolling early on both sides of the ball, jumping out to a fast 11-4 lead.  Other than the Vikings having the free throw advantage making five of their six to the Thunder one-of-two, Wheaton led in virtually every category throughout the first half.  Sophomore Aliyah Hershberger and junior Kathryn Keehn led all Vikings with five points each, both knocking in a three pointer and Keehn adding two steals.  North Park was able to get their offense going better in the second quarter, but the Thunder offense was clicking from the jump, closing the half with a 35-18 lead.

Dominance from the Thunder continued to be the story in the second half, as they won the third quarter 19-11.  Wheaton was hot from behind the three-point line all game, shooting 42.3% from outside while the Vikings only made 21.1% of their attempts.  Sophomore Caroline Long got going in the second half, ending her night with ten points and four rebounds, and Hershberger was the second high scorer for the Vikings with seven.
