NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The North Park Men's Soccer team held the nation's top offense to just one goal in the opening round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, that one goal would be enough as the UW-Superior Yellowjackets beat the Vikings, 1-0.
Both teams had good looks on goal in the first half, beginning with Thomas Roenning's shot saved by Alex Paredes in the third minute and another shot saved by Alexander Gahm in the 16th minute.

Superior's Zach Tiemeyer sent one on frame in the 18th minute, following a corner kick, punched out by North Park goalkeeper Ludvig Almborg. Almborg saved another low shot by Felipe Oliveira in the 27th minute.
Despite the pressure on both goalkeepers, the two teams would break scoreless, looking to make their mark in the second half.
The Yellowjackets were the first to score with a strike by Josh Bellamy in the 61st minute. A centering pass from Aaron Shartin-Folkert just inside the box allowed Bellamy to send an un-savable shot into the upper-right corner of the net.
North Park had a few more scoring chances through the next 30 minutes, including consecutive shots by Gahm, saved by Paredes and a shot on the frame of the goal by Bastian Eikeland.
However, that one goal would hold as the Vikings' season ended against the Yellowjackets, 1-0.
North Park finishes its season 13-3-5 and earned a second-place finish in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) race.
