MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- North Park Men's Basketball officially opened their season on Wednesday night with a road contest at No. 15 Wisconsin Lutheran College. Three Vikings reached double-digit scoring totals, but the Warriors walked away with a 114-81 win inside the Time of Grace Center.
Both teams played aggressive, pressing defense in the Vikings' season opener as the two programs combined for 29 turnovers and 16 steals. More than half of the Warriors' points (60) were secured in the paint as the nationally-ranked opponent generated 23 points off turnovers and 18 second-chance points. The Warriors scored the first two baskets, three pointers by Jack Stoltz and AJ Vos, and never gave the lead back. The Warriors shot 58% from the field and had six players reach double-digit scoring totals, led by Ryan Broeckel with 24 and Stoltz with 23.
For the Vikings, senior guard Davante Robinson provided a spark off the bench as one of the first players to rotate in for Coach Edwind McGhee. He buried three 3-pointers in a row in the first half and finished the evening with 14 points. Senior guard Rico Powell set a career high with 20 points as North Park top scorer while also leading the Vikings with six rebounds. He was perfect from the free-throw line at 5-5. Senior guard John Gaines was the final Viking in double figures with 15 points on 7-13 shooting. Preston Bax III, TJ Gardner, and Taijon Barry all had two steals.

North Park (0-1) continues a stretch of games against opponents in the national conversation when they travel to face UW-La Crosse (1-1) this coming Saturday, Nov. 16. Tipoff at Mitchell Hall Gym is set for 5:00 PM CT.
