CHICAGO, Ill. -- North Park Women's Soccer concluded their 2024 campaign on a high note, earning a 1-0 win over Carthage College at the Holmgren Athletic Complex on Wednesday evening.
It was only a matter of time for North Park to find netting in this one. The Vikings reached double digits with a dozen shots in the first 45 minutes of play. Freshman midfielder Julia Önnerheim and junior midfielder Angelica Børkeeiet registered shots on goal in the half as NPU hustled up and down the field to find an opportunity. However, that opportunity did not show itself in the first half as the two teams broke for halftime scoreless.
In the second half, senior midfielder Nora Vangsnes sent a shot on goal in the 58th minute before a foul gave the Vikings a close free kick chance. After the free kick was bounced out of the box, sophomore midfielder Maja Applequist collected it before firing a strike 25 yards out for the one and only goal of the game.
Senior goalkeepers Philemina Toca and Emily LaSalle split time in goal for the shared shutout, each saving a pair of shots.
North Park concludes its season 6-10-1 (2-5-1 CCIW) with a seventh-place finish in the CCIW. The six wins are a career high for Coach Emma Woodley and the most for the Vikings since 2017.
