CHICAGO, Ill. -- North Park dropped their first conference contest of the season against the Vikings from Augustana College, 2-0, in Chicago on Saturday night.
The first half ended in a scoreless draw as North Park maintained most of the possessions throughout, only totaling one shot for the half. NPU also dominated the corner kick numbers compared to Augustana, 4-0, offering many opportunities to score but could not capitalize. Junior midfielder Nora Vangsnes and freshman midfielder Ellen Carlsson were the only members of North Park to get a shot on goal.
Senior forward Liesl Whitener of Augustana was responsible for both of their goals in Saturday's match. Both goals were assisted by junior defender Abby DeGustino, the first being a perfectly-placed crossing pass to Whitener's feet where she converted just five minutes into the second half, making it 1-0. Her second goal came in the 87th minute, headed off the cross from DeGustino, traveling right over the goalkeeper's hands.
