CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Vikings men's soccer team lost to the Ohio Northern Polar Bears by a score of 2-1 on Saturday night, moving the Vikings' record to 3-2-1.
The Polar Bears stuck first in the 22nd minute of the game. The Polar Bears utilized a throw in at midfield to Brenden Gerversb who moved the ball to ONU's Will Shaffer, securing his fourth tally of the season on the ensuing strike. The rest of the half was quiet as both offenses were able to scratch seven shots before the halftime break
North Park came into the second half firing. The first opportunity was realized when freshman forward Vicente Sabbione was knocked off his feat while looking to beat the Polar Bear keeper to the ball in the box. After consideration from the officials, the foul was awarded a penalty kick opportunity. Junior forward Willy Wickman would oblige, converting on the penalty kick goal in the 53rd minute for his second goal on the season.
However, the Polar Bears were able to squeeze in a late second goal in the 88th minute of the match. Ryan Sommerfeld booted a ball up close to the box from the left side and a vaulting Nolan Schrimer headed the ball into the right side of the net to put the Polar Bears up 2-1. This goal sealed the game for Ohio Northern as the Vikings were unable get the ball back down field.
