Vikings Pick Up Eighth Conference Win at. Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- Vikings Softball extended the program record for conference wins on Friday, moving to 8-6 in the CCIW after a double-header against the Vikings of Augustana College. After getting shutout in a Game 1 loss, North Park bounced back in Game 2 to take a 3-2 victory.

Game 1

Despite a strong outing from SP Maya Lafnear, who went 6.0 IP with just 1 ER allowed, Augustana emerged with the win in Game 1 thanks to an exceptional pitching performance of their own. In earning the shutout for her side, Augustana's Nadia Ranieri went all 7.0 innings with 10 K, allowing just 2 H and 1 BB.

Eden Baker was North Park's only batter to reach base twice with a single and walk, while Emily Reczek registered the Vikings' only other hit of the ballgame.

Game 2

With Ranieri off the mound, North Park managed to get their offense going in Game 2 and SP Alyssa Malicki ensured the effort would not go to waste.

The Vikings earned all three of their runs in the bottom of the 3rd after a single and steal by Isa Santos sparked a rally to start the inning. Kathryn Keehn then moved Santos to third while reaching on an error, setting up NPU to score in each of the next three at-bats. First, a double by Kayla Lorenz plated Santos to get North Park on the board. Emily Reczek followed that up with a squeeze bunt base hit to bring Keehn home and advance Lorenz to third. During Alyssa Malicki's at-bat, an error by the Augustana defense allowed Lorenz to cross the plate and give NPU a 3-0 lead.

Augie fought back with two runs in the top of the 5th, but that was all they could manage against Malicki to represent an eventual 3-2 North Park win. Malicki's final line as the winning pitcher read 7.0 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 4 K, and 2 BB as NPU moves to 16-19-1 overall and 8-6 in conference.

Offensively, Malicki, Kayla Lorenz, and Isa Santos all matched the team's hit total from Game 1 to record a multi-hit game. Lorenz marked the team's only XBH with a double while Santos' steal makes her 7-for-7 on the season.

What's Next?

The Vikings have a chance to clinch a spot in the CCIW Tournament on Sunday in their final series of the regular season. In what will be their Senior Day, North Park takes on the Illinois Wesleyan Titans at 1:00 and 3:00 P.M. at the Holmgren Athletic Complex.
