CHICAGO, Ill. -- The North Park women's basketball team faced off against the Elmhurst Bluejays on Saturday afternoon for their College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) opener. The Bluejays came out on top with a final score of 75-60.
The first quarter of the matchup was an offensive bout ending in a score of 24-22 in favor of Elmhurst. 11 points were scored in the first 43 seconds of the game. Elmhurst knocked down a three and fastbreak jumper off a steal before Ava Foote nailed a three. The Bluejays responded with a three of their own before jumpers by Caroline Long made it a one possession game at 8-7. Both teams shot their best in this quarter; North Park was 10-18 (55.56%) while Elmhurst was 9-17 (52.94%).
The next quarter was dominated by the Bluejays who outscored the Vikings 22-9. This was largely due to the Vikings being held to just 21.43 shooting (3-14 from the field) and an empty tally from deep, (0-5).
Unfortunately, powered by a nearly 2-to-1 rebounding advantage, the Bluejays ran away with the game, 75-60.
