CHICAGO, Ill. – The North Park softball team got swept for the first time this season against visiting Benedictine University on Tuesday afternoon, losing the first game by a score of 10-4 before falling in game two by a sum of 4-2.
The Eagles ran two across to start the ball game in the first, but it was the leadoff batter for North Park that had the first hard hit ball of the day when Caitlyn Webb crushed a ball over the right field fence for the second homer of her career, the only other one coming in her freshman year. The Vikings clocked a run in both the third and fourth inning as well when Aragon had an RBI single that scored Webb and Rachael Feazelle scored Alyssa Malicki on a groundout, respectively. Feazelle again pushed across a run with an RBI groundout in the sixth. Unfortunately for NPU, the Benedictine bats would get hot in the late going as the Eagles scored seven in the final three innings and would go on to win by six.
Final: Benedictine 10, North Park 4
In game two, North Park got on the board first with an E6 allowing Isa Santos to boogie all the way home from first base to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. BenU would respond with three runs in the next half inning to grab the 3-1 advantage. North Park scored another in the bottom of the fifth when Isa Santos crossed the plate on an infield bases loaded single from Feazelle. Aragon then tried to round third and equalize the contest but a great throw from the Eagles shortstop had her tagged out inches from the plate. An insurance run from Benedictine made it 4-2, and North Park was able to bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh when Aragon clocked a double, but alas, BenU grabbed the final out to win by two.
Final: Benedictine 4, North Park 2
