CHICAGO, Ill. – Senior forward Jayla Johnson has been named a first team D3hoops.com All-Region selection, as the organization announced its picks on Tuesday morning.
Johnson, a four-time All-College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) selection, has earned her second trip to the All-Region team following another illustrious season at NPU. Johnson cracked the CCIW's top 5 in numerous categories, including points per game (2nd, 19.1), rebounds (3rd, 191), filed goal percentage (3rd, 50.4), blocks (4th, 21), and steals (2nd, 65).
Her senior campaign featured eight double-doubles, 12 games scoring 20+ points, and a season-high 30 points in the November 14th win over Maryville College. The individual success for Johnson led to team success for the Vikings as well. North Park went 15-10 overall and 8-8 in the CCIW, good enough for the No. 4 seed and a home game in the first round of the conference tournament.
Despite a COVID shortened season last year, her career marks will still forever resound across the NPU record books. She's reached double figures in 76 games, including 31 points versus Millikin on December 5th, 2018. She was CCIW Newcomer of the Year as a Freshman, a seven-time CCIW Student-Athlete of the week selection, and a four-time All-CCIW selection, including three years on the first team. In her career, she has totaled 1,480 points, 648 rebounds, 191 steals, 132 assists, 52 blocked shots, and a career shooting percentage of 51%.
