DECATUR, Ill. -- The North Park men's volleyball team broke out of their slump on Tuesday, winning 3-0 against the Big Blue and moving back to .500 with their 7th win. The Vikings went through the gauntlet as of late with 5 of their last 6 opponents being nationally ranked or having received votes, but this game against Millikin represented a chance for North Park to get back on track.
The 3 sets played out to 25-17, 25-20, and 25-13 scores, marking a one-sided victory for the Vikings. Across the match as a whole, North Park managed a solid hitting percentage of .217 on 83 attacks. Millikin had one more attacking opportunity with 84, but they only were able to pick up 19 kills to the Vikings' 35. Notably, North Park recorded a negative hitting percentage in the 2nd set, but that didn't hold them back from picking up the victory.
The Vikings also managed to tie a season high with 10 aces, though the last time they did so came in 4 sets against Edgewood. Noah Salazar led with 3 while Emmanuel Eugene and Quinn Robinson had 2 of their own.
Next up, North Park takes on Augustana at home this coming Saturday. Augie sits at 6-10 on the season overall and 2-3 in conference play, so this will be a massive opportunity for the Vikings to make up some ground after an 0-4 conference start following a tough early schedule. The Viking clash will kick off at 5:00 PM in the North Park Gymnasium.
