Chicago, Ill. – The North Park University football team had their only home game of the spring season on Friday night, coming up short against Augustana College by a score of 51-14 at the Holmgren Athletic Complex.
North Park dominated possession in the first quarter, but an Augie drive, aided by some costly NPU penalties, resulted in the only points of the quarter from an Augustana field goal at the 6:40 mark. North Park answered with a long drive that bled into the second and ended with a missed field goal, but it was clear NPU was not going away easy.
After the squads exchanged punts, Augustana struck for the first touchdown of the game to go up 10-0 with 7:44 left before halftime. The home Vikings responded with a 10-play drive that ended when senior quarterback Grant Borsch heaved it down the field into the arms of receiver Brandon Vinson for a 42-yard touchdown. That made the score 17-7, which it would stay at up to halftime.
Halftime: Augustana 17, North Park 7
The Augustan offense was hard to slow down in the second half, scoring 34 points on the way to a comfortable victory. North Park put together sustained drives, including one drive that went all the way down to the Augie one yard line, before being intercepted in the endzone on fourth-and-goal. The biggest offensive highlight of the game came when Borsch hit senior Micah Lowe in the corner of the endzone for a five-yard score. Lowe made an incredible grab over his shoulder and was able to get a foot down inbounds. When all was said and done, Augie escaped with a 37-point win.
Final: Augustana 51, North Park 14
