LISLE, Ill. – After taking game one 5-2, the North Park University softball team took game two against Benedictine University down to the last strike before Emily Reczek hammered an 0-2 pitch with two outs for a three-run homer to give North Park the runs they needed to clinch game two by a score of 7-5 and the sweep over the Eagles.
Game 1
It was the Rachael Feazelle and Alyssa Aragon show in game one for NPU. Feazelle got the scoring going in the top of the first inning when she drove home Aragon on a double to put the Vikings up 1-0. Two innings later Feazelle again drove home Aragon, but this time with a bomb over the outfield fence to give North Park a 3-0 advantage. Aragon said "ditto" one inning later as she slapped a two-run homer that scored Caitlyn Webb for a 5-0 lead. With Alyssa Malicki in the circle, the five-run advantage was more than enough as Malicki only allowed one earned run on the day to go along with five strikeouts to get the win in the 5-2 victory.
Game 2
Aragon wasn't done hitting homers in game one and she started off game two with a solo shot in the top of the first. The Eagle bats finally caught fire and Benedictine outscored North Park 5-0 over the next five and a half innings and the Vikings entered the final frame down 5-1. With the leadoff batter getting out, Eliza Rex drew a one-out pinch-hit walk to get aboard, and it was Ellie Manderfeld that followed that up with an RBI-triple to narrow the NPU deficit to three. Webb drove Manderfeld home with a single, and after a Vikings strikeout, a Feazelle walk, and an RBI-single from Erin Penn, Reczek stepped up to the plate with two outs, two on, and North Park down by one. It was then that Reczek came up clutch as she shellacked a shot over the fence to put the visitors up by two. Feazelle shut the door in the bottom of seventh to seal the fourth doubleheader sweep victory of the season for the Vikings.
Quick Hits:
- Aragon finished the day 3-for-7 with two homers, three RBIs, and four runs scored.
- Feazelle was 4-for-6 on the day with one home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. She also picked up the win in game two.
- Reczek was 2-for-5 with that clutch homer giving her all three of her RBIs for the day.
