North Park Sweeps Augie as Manderfeld Sets Viking All-Time Record for Runs Scored

North Park off to 7-1 start with two one-run victories

Chicago, Ill. – Ellie Manderfeld etched her name in the North Park University record book scoring her 104th career run on a Caitlyn Webb single in game one, and the NPU softball team got two wins over Augustana on Sunday afternoon at the Holmgren Athletic Complex. With that run, Manderfeld became the all-time leader in runs scored by a Viking, passing head coach Katie Andersons' record of 103.

Game 1

Both games were defensive battles with North Park starting pitcher Alyssa Malicki dominating game one. The junior from Norridge, Illinois struck out eight batters, while only walking one and allowing one earned run. The lone Augie run came in the top of the third when Josie Smith scored for the visiting Vikings. North Park responded with haste as that Webb single pushed Manderfeld across the plate to even the score and break the runs record. It was later that inning when Malicki reached on an error to drive Alyssa Aragon across for what would be the game-winning run.

In the top of the seventh, NPU was clinging to a one run lead with Augustana runners on first and second base with two out, before Malicki fielded a ground ball that came back to the circle and threw to Webb at first to cement the 2-1 win.

Game 2

The second game was looking to be a much more offensive battle as Malicki got an RBI on a single in the top of the first, scoring Webb. Augustana answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, equalizing the score at one each. The bats went cold until the fourth when Brigid Early cracked a single down the right field line to score Malicki and give North Park a lead they would hold for the remainder of the game. One inning later, a Racheal Feazelle RBI-double scored Webb for what would turn out to be the winning run, Feazelle locked it up in the circle defensively to help push her season record to 4-0.

Quick Hits:

  • Caitlyn Webb finished with three hits, two runs, and one RBI on the day.
  • Racheal Feazelle went 3-4 in game two and got the win to get her record to 4-0.
  • Alyssa Malicki and Brigid Early each had two hits in game two, while Malicki picked on the win in game one with eight strikeouts.
  • Two hits, a walk, and that record-breaking run for Ellie Manderfeld.
