NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Park football's Juan Nieves and AJ Harris have been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively, as the league announced its selections on Monday afternoon.
Nieves, a freshman defensive back from Carrollton, Georgia, totaled eight tackles (two for a loss), a sack and a pass break up in Saturday's 33-30 win over Carthage. Additionally, Nieves forced a pair of turnovers with an interception and forced fumbled. His two tackles for loss and sack accounted for a loss of seven yards. Nieves leads the CCIW with four forced fumbles on the season.
Harris, a sophomore running back from Chicago, Illinois, posted another high-powered performance for the Viking offense on Saturday. Against the Firebirds, he caught seven passes for 147 yards, including a pair of touchdowns. He caught a 47-yard pass from quarterback Matt Eck and returned a kick for 87 yards, scoring on the ensuing drive. In the past two games, Harris has totaled 392 receiving yards.
