DECATUR, Ill. – On Thursday night, the North Park University men's volleyball team took down the Millikin University Big Blue in straight sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-15).
In the first set of the night, the Vikings grasped a 3-2 lead and never lost it. The Vikings totaled their first 10 points from Millikin errors, with their first earned point arriving on junior opposite hitter Frank Mauigoa's kill. The Big Blue did close the gap to 13-12, but the Vikings, who led by as much as 23-17, took the first set of the night, 25-19.
After North Park took a 3-1 lead in the second set, Millikin took advantage of four-straight Viking errors to hold a 5-3 lead. The Big Blue held their lead until halfway through the set, when a service ace from freshman outside hitter Armando Quinones and a block from freshman rightside hitter Johnny Euler and Mauigoa gave the Vikings a 15-13 lead. Millikin briefly tied the set up at 16-16 and 18-18, but the Vikings took seven of the next 10 points to earn the second-set victory, 25-21.
North Park posted their best 25 points of the night in the third set. Powered by a .318 hitting percentage and 10 kills, the Vikings earned a convincing 25-15 victory, taking the match in straight sets.
