CHICAGO, Ill. – The North Park University women's basketball team fell to the Carthage College Lady Reds, 62-53, inside the NPU Gym on Wednesday night.

North Park began the scoring with a jumper from sophomore forward Jayla Johnson that marked the beginning of a three-minute scoring lull before Carthage's Amanda Larson tallied a layup.

Through the rest of the first quarter, the Vikings and Lady Reds traded single-possession leads before Carthage grabbed a small lead of 12-10 moving into the second quarter.

The next ten minutes of the game followed suit of the first, as both teams totaled 12 points in the quarter. Carthage kept their two-point lead as the teams broke for halftime. Johnson led all scorers with 12 points while grabbing four rebounds.

Halftime: Carthage 24, North Park 22

Junior guard Sinead Molloy and sophomore center Josie Summerville brought the Vikings back to life in the third quarter with consecutive steals, leading to scores, as North Park trailed, 29-27.

However, sharpshooting by the Lady Reds and a scoring lull for the Vikings extended the Carthage lead to nine points, 38-29, with two minutes left in the third quarter.

Carthage took advantage of their free-throw opportunities late in the quarter, but North Park sophomore guard Emily Czuhajewski buried a late 3-pointer to keep the Vikings in the game, 42-34.

Carthage kept their distance through much of the fourth quarter, trading layups with the Vikings to retain a two-possession lead.

Unfortunately, clutch ball movement from Carthage allowed for many scoring opportunities, as the Lady Reds topped the Vikings, 62-53.

FINAL: Carthage 62, North Park 53
