Vikings suffer first CCIW loss in Bloomington

Two Vikings mark double-digit scoring totals

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The North Park University women's basketball team fell to the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans, 82-51, inside the Shirk Center on Wednesday night.

In the first quarter, the Vikings marked eight of the first 13 points, highlighted by a pair of field goals from sophomore center Josie Summerville. A layup by senior Alisha Panthier concluded the rest of the Vikings' offense for the quarter, as they trailed 15-10.

First Quarter: Illinois Wesleyan 15, North Park 10

In the first five minutes of the second quarter, the Vikings found themselves down 21-14.  During that stretch, Summerville and sophomore forward Jayla Johnson accounted for the lone four points.

With the Vikings now down 23-16 with four and half minutes left, sophomore guard Emily Czuhajewski hit a three-pointer and Johnson made a layup to close the gap to a single possession game at 23-21.

However, the Vikings did not score the rest of the quarter and found themselves trailing 31-21 at the half.  Johnson led the Vikings with 10 points and four rebounds as both teams shot 40% from the field in the first half.

Halftime: Illinois Wesleyan 31, North Park 21

In the third quarter, the Titans came out of the half hot and marked seven-straight points until Johnson marked a jumper and Summerville scored a layup. Trailing 38-25, the Vikings cut the Titan lead to 10 points numerous times. However, Illinois Wesleyan kept the Vikings at bay, leading 58-44 with one quarter to play.

Third Quarter: Illinois Wesleyan 58, North Park 44

Unfortunate, the NPU offense produced just seven points in the final quarter, falling to the Titans 82-51.
