CHICAGO, Ill. -- The No. 21 North Park University men's soccer team, after facing No. 3 U-Chicago yesterday afternoon, made a quick turnaround to beat the Dominican University Stars, 3-2, on Sunday night.

The Vikings dominated in the opening half of their home-opener, ripping 10 shots to Dominican's four.

Sophomore forward Patrick Knap earned the hard-fought first goal of the game for NPU. Knap, on a throw-in from junior midfielder Gianfranco DeCarne, went above the Stars' defense to send a header into the back of the net, tallying his first goal of the season in the 8th minute.

Dominican responded with a goal of their own in the 24th minute of play. Senior forward Isaac Perez received a pass from fellow senior forward Nicolo Vitale and skipped a shot underneath a diving Mathias Stulen to even the score.

With the clock winding down, sophomore midfielder William Sandkvist received a pass from junior Peder Olsen and fired a pair of consecutive shots at Dominican's goalkeeper, Daniel Dominguez. The first bounced off the Stars' keeper but Sandkvist kept his composure, tapping the ball past Dominguez on the follow-up shot as NPU took the lead with seconds remaining before halftime.

Halftime: North Park 2, Dominican 1

Not letting the Vikings keep their distance, sophomore forward Jonathan Hernandez tallied his third goal of the season to knot the contest up at two.

The Viking defense staved off the Stars' attempts to move the ball into the North Park half as a combination of Ulrik Lund, Runar Berg-Domaas, Ethan Pranckus, Erlend Kemkers, William Bostrom-Rydfjall, Arian Cindahl, and Stulen worked to give the Vikings another socring opportunity.

That chance would arrive in the 81st minute. Following a Dominican foul that nearly gave the Vikings a penalty kick, Olsen scored on a close-range free kick, finessing a chip-shot into the top-left corner of the net to put the Vikings up 3-2.
