CCIW STORY
NAPERVILLE, Ill. The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) selected North Park University freshman forward Jayla Johnson as the Women's Basketball Player of the Week, as the conference announced on Monday afternoon. This is the first time North Park has been honored with a Player of the Week selection since Clarissa Ramos earned the recognition last season on December 4, 2017.
The Wheaton, Illinois native stepped up when the Vikings needed it most.
Against Elmhurst College on Wednesday, February 13, Johnson posted 16 points while grabbing 6 rebounds to lead the Vikings to a 62-58 victory over the Bluejays.c
Next, in a must-win game against Millkin University, on Saturday, February 16, Johnson marked her second-career double-double with 19 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Johnson also added a career-high 3 assists.
Currently, Johnson leads the Viking, and finished ninth in the CCIW with 13.8 points per game while averaging a team third-best 5.7 rebounds per game. Finally, in overall play, Johnson finished with CCIW third-bests in steals (52) and field goal percentage (54.5%).
The Vikings are back in action tomorrow, February 19, traveling to Rock Island, Illinois to play Augustana College in the first round of the CCIW Women's Basketball Tournament. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. inside the Carver Center.
