WAUKESHA, Wis. -- After three home games in a row, the North Park University men's basketball team hit the road on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Carroll University Pioneers (6-11, 2-6 CCIW) by a score of 58-85.
The Vikings were able to take a 5-2 lead in the opening minute of play courtesy of a game-opening layup from senior guard Cardell Simmons and a 3-pointer from junior forward Vegard Tangen.Â
A Carroll 3-pointer from Nick Penny would momentarily give the Pioneers a 6-5 lead, but sophomore guard Matt Szuba would bury a 3-pointer of his own to capture the lead back at 8-6.
After sophomore guard Toby Marek marked a layup, the Pios would sink three 3-pointers and a layup to sharply grab the lead at 17-10.
Carroll would keep this momentum through the first half of play, outscoring the Vikings 40-27 as the teams broke for halftime.
The Pios shot 6-9 beyond the arc while also utilizing 16 points from their bench.
Halftime: North Park 27, Carroll 40
Carroll's offense kept their pace in the second half, utilizing seven 3-pointers and a 51.5 field goal percentage (17-33) to outscore North Park 45-31.
North Park knocked down six 3-pointers of their own while marking 20 points from their bench but, ultimately, fell to Carroll 58-85.
