KENOSHA, Wisc. --
The North Park men's basketball team suffered their first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) loss of the season, 54-78, to the Carthage College Red Men on Wednesday night.
Trailing early, the Vikings would tie the game up at 8-8 when junior forward Vegard Tangen converted on an and-one layup.Â
The Red Men responded with a 13-0 run, spearheaded by three-pointers from Jordon Kedrowski, Preston Laketa, and Mike Canady. The Vikings snapped this scoring run on a layup from freshman guard Kindrel Morris, but Carthage would keep a safe distance through the rest of the first half.
At halftime: Carthage 40, North Park 31
Carthage's Preston Laketa and Sean Johnson led the first-half charge, both scoring 10 in the first 20 minutes of play.Â
For the Vikings, Vegard Tangen had a first-half best 11 points and marked the lone blocked shot for the NPU defense. Sophomore forward Matt Szuba pulled down 8 rebounds, including 4 offensive.
The second half would yield a similar result, as the North Park offense could only muster 7 field goals. Carthage's defense came up with 5 blocks, a pair of steals, and 18 defensive rebounds. For the Red Men offense, Kienan Baltimore carried Carthage with 19 points while shooting 7-8 from the field.
Outscored 38-23 in the second half, the Vikings fell by a final score of 54-78.
