ELMHURST, Ill. -- The North Park University football team hit the road on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Elmhurst College Bluejays 36-19.
In the Vikings' play of the game, sophomore quarterback Grant Borsch found receiver Malik Powell for a 60-yard pass before being pushed out at the Elmhurst 12. Borsch would take the final play himself, rushing for a one-yard touchdown.
The North Park defense would hold the momentum in the Vikings' favor, as senior David Simmons, Jr. blocked the Elmhurst punt to allow the North Park offense to take over at the Elmhurst 20. The Vikings would utilize a three-yard rush by Michael Soracco, and a pair of passes from Borsch to Brandon Vinson to capture a 14-0 lead.
Elmhurst was able to mark on a 21-yard rush, but the Vikings negated the six points on their next drive. Borsch and receiver Brian Mena wasted no time, as they connected for a 19-yard reception on the first play. The pair connected again on third and long for a 16-yard first down. Marching downfield on 12 plays, the Vikings ended their scoring drive on a 37-yard pass from Borsch to receiver Sid Smith, IV. Handling a botched snap, placeholder Dalton McKay would rush for a two-point conversion.
North Park marked a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter: a 20-yard pass from Borsch to Smith IV and a 33-yard pass from Borsch to receiver Josh Casey to take a 36-12 lead.
Elmhurst marked in the fourth quarter to bring the score to 36-19 but the Vikings would hang on, winning by the same score.
