BLOOMINGTON, Ill. –
In the 99th minute, sophomore Peder Olsen scored the match-winning goal against Illinois Wesleyan, giving the 17th-ranked North Park University men's soccer team a 3-2 victory in overtime Monday evening.
The Titans got on the board early in the first half. In the 14th minute, Mason Maier scored his fifth goal of the season to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. However, at the 30th minute, the Vikings responded on a penalty goal by sophomore Shatil Khoury, tying the match at one apiece at the end of the first half.
In the second half, the Titans scored the go-ahead goal in the 49th minute to make the score 2-1. In the 77th minute, off an assist by Khoury, Olsen found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season tying the match up at two apiece.
Neither team was able to mark through the rest of regulation and the match was pushed into overtime.
In the 99th minute of play, the 2017 CCIW Newcomer of the Year found the back of the net for his fifth goal, and second game-winner, of the season as North Park earned the 3-2 OT victory in Bloomington.,
NPU outshot Illinois Wesleyan 14 to 8 and 5 to 3 on goal and garnered the lone two shots in the overtime period. Olsen led the Vikings connecting on five shots including three on goal. Freshman Ulrik Lund and Khoury were close behind tallying three shots.
