North Park rolled to a 9-0 win over visiting Dominican University in its home opener Wednesday afternoon.
Despite cloudy skies and threatening rain showers, there was plenty of smiles and sunshine on the Vikes' sidelines as they won four of the six singles matches in straight sets.
At No.1, Vilde Olvin earned a 6-2, 6-1 win followed by Linn Viuhkonen's 6-1, 6-2 win at No.2. After a solid 6-0, 6-2 win for Katie Chleboun at No. 4, senior Juviel Vinluan highlighted the singles matches at No. 3 by putting down her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
"We played strong in all the games," Vikings' head coach Karl Clifton-Soderstrom said. "I was proud that they played so consistent throughout the matches. They kept their focus and intensity and played hard every point. Those will definitely be good skills to bring into a big and tough weekend of conference matches."
At No. 1 doubles, Olvin and Viuhkonen earned an 8-1 win while Vinluan and Linnea Love were victorious 8-0 at No. 2. Grace Pavlak and Hannah Rosenbaum then capped off the sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 3.
North Park resumes action when it travels to Kenosha, Wisconsin Saturday for a 3 p.m. match with Carthage College.
