Led by three different players in double-figure scoring, Augustana shocked North Park 86-70 in the semifinals of the CCIW tournament Friday night at Tarble Arena on the campus of Carthage College.
Augie seized an early 14-5 lead and never looked back as it avenged an NP regular season sweep. Nolan Ebel led AC with 21 points as No. 3 seeded Augie built as much as a 23-point lead midway through the second half. Senior Juwan Henry led the Vikes in what could've been his last collegiate game as he poured in a game-high 24 points. Junior Jordan Robinson added 13 and both Colin Lake and Joe Biko tallied 11 points each.
After a three-pointer from Robinson gave the second-seeded Vikes an early advantage, Augustana exploded for a 12-0 scoring run to command a 14-5 lead six minutes into the contest. A poor shooting first half (28.0 percent) unfortunately hampered the Vikings as they fell behind 39-24 at halftime. Augustana then pushed it to a 21-point margin after a rebounded basket with 9:49 left in the contest. NP did trim it to 15 after a Lake three with 3:08 left, but the Vikes didn't draw any closer thereafter.
Senior T.J. Cobbs added six points and five rebounds while Cam Burnett tallied three. Augustana dominated the inside as it scored 54 points in the paint and 11 transition points.
North Park (18-8, 11-5) will now await the possibility of an at-large bid to the NCAA National Tournament when the selections are released early next week. Â Â
