Despite a 14-10 total shots edge in regulation, North Park played to a 2-2, double overtime tie with host Carthage College Wednesday night.
The Vikes took the initial lead 14 minutes in, but saw their advantage dwindle to a 2-1 deficit just out of halftime. It wasn't until the equalizing goal in the 55th minute from senior Jason Gonzalez that the visitors were able to force the extra time. Â
Carel Kawele Kuzona gave North Park a 1-0 lead when he scored his 11th goal of the season off an assist from Gustav Ericsson. For Kuzona it was his third goal in the last two matches.
Carthage came up with the equalizer however in the 26th minute via a penalty kick goal from Adrian Herrera and the Red Men moved ahead 2-1 20 minutes later when Jerry Patino scored off a free kick.
NP held a 6-4 total shots advantage in the second half and they tied it nine minutes after Carthage's go-ahead when Gonzalez buried his first goal of the season and the first of his career off an assist from Kuzona. Carthage generated four shots in the two overtime periods to NP's one, but the Vikings defense held off the rally to play to their first tie of the season.
Kuzona led North Park with five shots while Henrik Roesholt had three. Alexis Garcia led Carthage with three shots.
North Park (10-1-1, 5-0-1) returns to action Sunday when it steps out of CCIW play to host UW-Whitewater at 1 p.m.
