Looking to build its momentum heading into the bulk of the CCIW conference schedule, the North Park tennis team came out with a 5-4 win over Dominican University Tuesday night in River Forest.

While the Vikings split three decisions each in the six singles matches, they took two of three doubles matches, winning with the tandems of Justine DeBosscher/Vilde Olvin at No. 1 (8-0) and Jasmine Madrid/Juviel Vinluan at No. 2 (8-4).

"This was a good preparation match for Elmhurst," Vikings coach Karl Clifton-Soderstrom said. "It gave our team more confidence, but also showed us the kind of mental toughness needed to play against different and often slower styles of play.  While many of our games worked out in our favor, we continue to grow as a team in sustaining match-level intensity in our mental game."

NP swept the first three singles matches with straight-set victories going to Jasmine Madrid at No. 1 (6-0, 6-0) Olvin at No. 2 (6-0, 6-0) and DeBosscher at No. 3 (6-0, 6-1).

"We were nearly perfect in the first three matches," Clifton-Soderstrom said. "We struggled some in the final three matches, but they were still solid performances."

North Park (1-3, 0-1) returns to action Thursday when it travels to Elmhurst College for a 3:30 p.m. match.
