Although the Vikings suffered their third setback to start the season, they continued to make strides and show improvements in all facets of the game.
NP fell 6-3 to new College Conference of Illinois Wisconsin foe Carroll University, but Vikings' coach Karl Clifton-Soderstrom was impressed with the resiliency the team showed throughout.
"There is still a lot of work to do with this team to get us ready for a number of upcoming conference matches, but we made some real strides in our overall strategies and strength, especially in doubles," he said. "The victories we had today really demonstrated what our players can do when all the parts of their game come together."
Of their three victories in the match, two came at No. 1 singles with Jasmine Madrid upending her opponent Lauren Miketinac in a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6 (9-7) win and Vilde Olvin at No. 2 picking up a straight-set 6-1, 6-1 win in the most dominant match of the day for the Vikings.
At No. 2 doubles, the tandem of Madrid and Juviel Vinluan earned an 8-5 win over Carroll's Megan Krzewinski and Megan Wiersma, but the Pioneers picked up four of their six victories in singles.
"Doubles were all close matchups with long points and games," Clifton-Soderstrom said. "While Jasmine and Vilde in singles played solid and earned some impressive points."
North Park (0-3) resumes action Tuesday when it travels to River Forest to face Dominican University at 3:30 p.m.
