The North Park rowing team ended its season at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championship in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania Saturday-Sunday and although their finish wasn't as strong, the Vikings have plenty to build on for the offseason.
"Our ladies have stepped up their commitment level in the last few weeks of racing and training," Vikings' head coach Sarah Tinsley said. "We have clear goals for our offseason and we're looking forward to what comes next."
Saturday's Varsity 4 + boat of coxswain Alice Curry, stroke Emily Kooi, Kierstin Toth, Kathryn Hjelm and bow Emma Wilson finished with a time of 8:49.69, while Sunday's lineup at the Mid-American Collegiate Rowing Association Championship in Cincinnati, Ohio consisted of Curry, Kooi, Roth, Nancy Vinanzaca and Wilson.
"We raced hard and gave an extraordinary effort," Tinsley said. We definitely have a foundation to build on."
Earning both Academic All-Conference and Varsity All-Conference honors was Hjelm, who finished her career as a four-year letter winner. Emma Wilson also earned All-Conference honors and Emily Kooi took home Novice All-Conference honors.
"Kathryn had a sensational season and an amazing four years as a Viking, she will be missed in our lineup," Tinsley said. "But I'm glad we'll have Emily and Emma back for next season as we can only improve on our finishes from this season."
North Park returns in the fall for its non-traditional season which will begin in late August early September.
