Vikes upset No. 17 Augie 87-78

Robinson dishes out season-high 12 assists

Led by a combined effort from Colin Lake, Juwan Henry and Jordan Robinson, North Park ran its win streak to five to start the season as the Vikings upset No. 17 nationally-ranked Augustana College Saturday night in the CCIW opener for both teams.

The Vikings gave themselves strong consideration for a Top 25 ranking as they took the lead with 11:15 remaining in the first half and never looked back. Henry poured in a game-high 23 points as he knocked down six field goals, but more importantly was nearly perfect from the free throw line – converting on 10 of 12 attempts – as NP shot a blistering 84.2 percent from the stripe in the contest. Jordan Robinson added 22 points and a career-high 12 assists.

Augustana posed a strong threat in the opening 10 minutes, but after a Billy Kirby three-pointer midway through the first, North Park controlled the tempo thereafter as the Vikings built as much as a seven-point lead at 30-23 after a Robinson three-pointer. Augie did close within one at halftime 34-33 on a Jacob Johnston dunk, but the hosts' momentum didn't last as NP opened the second half with a 9-0 spurt highlighted by jumpers from Darius Brown, T.J. Cobbs and a trey from Robinson.

North Park then enjoyed its largest lead of the night at 64-48 after a Robinson jumper with 7:50 left in the contest. Augustana did close within six in the final two minutes, but NP held off the rally by converting 8 of its final 9 free throw attempts to earn the win.

Defensively North Park generated nine turnovers off steals while converting 18 points off the swipes. Cobbs, Lake, Henry and Robinson all had two each. Lake added 14 points and Joe Biko came off the bench to score 8 points as he was a perfect 3 of 3 in field goals. Five different players finished in double-figure scoring for Augie led by Johnston's 16 points.

North Park (5-0, 1-0) returns to action Wednesday night when it travels to Bloomington for a 7 p.m. contest with Illinois Wesleyan University.
