North Park further secured its spot in the CCIW postseason tournament Wednesday night with a solid 4-0 victory over host North Central College in Naperville.
The victory was the 10th for the Vikings in the 2016 season as they extended their streak of 10 or more victories in a season to 14 straight years. With a victory Saturday against Elmhurst coupled with a Carthage loss to Augustana, North Park can earn a share of the regular season conference crown.
Reigning male Vikings Athlete of the Week Gianfranco DeCarne decided things early for the visitors as he buried his eighth goal of the year in the fifth minute off a Chase Lennartz assist. Nathaniel Paisley then went for his first goal of the season in the 32nd minute when he took a Matias Warp assist.
Despite dominating on the scoreboard, things were quite even in shots as both teams tied with 10. NP's third goal came in the 64th minute via senior Miguel Valle – who tallied his fourth goal of the year and his second in the last four matches – when DeCarne found him for a shot. Alen Hataric then added the final goal – his second of the year – in the 79th minute after Lennartz recorded his second assist of the match and found Hataric for the 4-0 shutout.
Keeper Wesley Woodley made two saves and earned his third shutout of the season. Ivan Bohorquez led North Central with two shots.
North Park (10-5-1, 6-1) closes out the regular season Saturday night against Elmhurst College at 7:30 p.m.
