North Park left no doubt in showcasing its high-powered offense as the Vikings used a combined effort in earning an 82-70 victory over visiting Illinois Wesleyan Saturday night.
While junior Juwan Henry tallied a game-high 19 points, the Vikings nearly had four players finish in double-figure scoring. Both Colin Lake and Jordan Robinson had 14 points each, while T.J. Cobbs and Michael Hutchinson added eight points apiece as NP earned its second-straight victory over the Titans dating back to last season.
North Park put the clamps on early and nearly led wire-to-wire as they opened up with a 17-9 advantage after a pair of free throws from Henry with 13:44 remaining. A three-pointer from Robinson with just under a minute left in the half pushed the Vikings lead to 44-23 and they later moved it to a 20-point margin early in the second half after a three-pointer from Hutchinson.
Illinois Wesleyan struggled to get its offense kick-started and the Titans unfortunately suffered from the effects as they never drew any closer than the final margin in the final 6:09 of the contest. IWU did nearly connect on half of its field goals in the second half, but seven turnovers led to seven points off the mistakes for the hosts, including six points in transition.
Along with his eight points, Cobbs grabbed eight rebounds while Henry had six and Robinson five. Lake also snatched three steals and had three assists. Trevor Seibring led Illinois Wesleyan with 16 points.
North Park (12-6, 4-3) returns to action Wednesday night when it hosts Carthage College for a 7 p.m. contest.
