Led by three-straight singles victories to open the match, North Park earned its first victory of the season – a 6-3 decision – over Loras College at the Augustana College tri-match Labor Day afternoon.
North Park unfortunately suffered a 0-9 setback to Augustana in its CCIW opener in the first match, but bounced back in a big way in the night cap.
Sophomore Lisa Daniels and Jasmine Madrid led the charge at No. 1 and No. 2 singles as they earned straight-set victories. Daniels upended her opponent Jessica Dickhut 6-1, 6-2 while Madrid went 6-0, 6-0 over Emma Cooke.
At No. 3 singles, newcomer Vilde Olvin continued NP's momentum as she defeated Maggie Clements in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 and although the Vikings fell at both No. 4 and No. 5 singles, freshman Katie Chleboun picked up her first collegiate win at No. 6 singles earning a 6-2, 6-1 triumph.
The combination of Madrid and Daniels was lethal at No. 1 doubles as they defeated Sam Pietruszynski and Dickhut 8-4 and the duo of Olvin and Juviel Vinluan at No. 2 defeated Maggie Clements and Cooke 8-4 to finish off the victory.
North Park (1-1, 0-1) returns to action Saturday when it continues CCIW play at Elmhurst College for a 10 a.m. match.
