North Park completed its first full season back as a varsity sport with an 8-1 win over Dominican University Friday in River Forest.

The Vikings handled five of the six singles matches in straight sets with the most impressive victory coming at No. 2 singles where Gabrielle Nordstrom defeated Megan Hickey 6-1, 6-0. No. 1 singles player Lisa Daniels finished her first just as impressive as she closed out the campaign with an 11-4 record after a default match win over DU's Jillian Metcalf.

Both Garrette Gessert and Juviel Vinluan as well as Marlee McCabe followed suit winning their matches in straight sets and NPU swept all three of its doubles matches with the combination of Daniels and Nordstrom winning at No. 1 handily 8-1.

"Lisa and Gabi continued to be a deadly duo to their opponents," Vikings' head coach Karl Clifton-Soderstrom said. "They both had solid singles seasons as well and we're looking for great things from them in the coming fall season."

The duo of McCabe and Gessert were also victorious at No. 2 doubles, earning an 8-3 win, and Vinluan and Daniella Gonzalez earned an 8-6 triumph at No. 3 doubles.

"The team has shown steady improvement and dedication throughout the year.  From last August with a brand new team of almost all freshmen, to coming in at a strong 5th in the CCIW the end of October, to winning the majority of their spring matches – the team has a lot of upward momentum," Clifton-Soderstrom said.  "With some strong recruits for next year coming in, it will be great to see what these women will accomplish in their time at North Park.  We met our first year's goal of establishing a culture of discipline, mutual support, and enjoyment in the competition."

The 2014-15 campaign also marked the first for graduate assistant Yannick Goossens, who was a key part to the team's success.

"I can't tell you how crucial the work of assistant coach Yannick Goossens was in the team's success," Clifton-Soderstrom said.  "He really helped each individual player make important adjustments to their technique and movement which will pay off long term for these players.  His love of competition and care for each player really helped build up the team culture."
