Box Score NP v. Carthage
Despite a 9-0 setback to end the fall regular season at Carthage College Wednesday, North Park's tennis team surely wasn't hanging their heads leaving Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Although NP played without its No. 1singles player Lisa Daniels, who sustained an injury but should return for the conference tournament, the Vikings still put forth a solid effort in preparation for the postseason, starting Oct. 22.
"We played very well against the No.3 team in the conference," Vikings' coach Karl Clifton-Soderstrom said. "Overall, we are in a solid position to do well in the upcoming Conference Championship next week."
The two closest matches were contested at No. 1 with Jasmine Madrid (1-6, 4-6 loss) and No. 3 with Marlee McCabe (3-6, 1-6 loss).
"It was great to see Jasmine and Marlee go head-to-head against tougher than usual competition and really bring their best tennis to the afternoon," Clifton-Soderstrom said. Jasmine used a strong forehand to befuddle her opponent in the second set, which was great to see."
With their two CCIW victories, North Park will be seeded sixth in the upcoming tournament.
"This fall season we ended up with a better overall record and played better tennis throughout the season compared to last year," Clifton-Soderstrom said. "It was great to see the Vikings win against teams they lost to last year, and continue the upward climb of our program. We kept our heads up through some tough losses, and fought hard against the top teams in the conference. We are very proud of what the team has accomplished this season, and can't wait to elevate our games even further in the tournament."
