Head football coach Mike Conway and the Vikings would like to forget about this one quickly.
Hoping to rebound from a close three-point loss the week before, the Vikings instead met a high-powered Alma College offense led by four touchdowns and 460 yards of total offense en route to a 31-7 Scots victory Saturday night in Michigan.
Alma struck early and often, opening up a 17-0 lead midway through the second quarter. North Park's lone score in the game came at the 3:08 mark of the second when sophomore quarterback T.D. Conway connected with Devin Childress (2 catches, 39 yards)Â for a 38-yard score.
The Vikings offense unfortunately just couldn't get started. North Park managed 141 yards passing, but garnered only eight first downs. Conway finished the game completing 14 of his 41 passes with no interceptions. Leading the ground game for NP was Drew Walkington and D.J. Jones, who each had 34 and 14 yards rushing, respectively. Junior wide receiver Dakota Conway also had five catches for 64 yards, while Daniel Anderson had six catches for 32 yards.
Defensively the Vikings had some bright spots as senior preseason All-American Philip Pendleton had six total tackles, including five unassisted. A week after leading the defensive charge with eight tackles, Joe Butz was once again solid as he matched that number with six assisted tackles, and Kyle Leibforth finished the night with 10 total tackles, including three unassisted.
North Park (0-2) continues its three-week road trip next week as it travels to Missouri for a 1 p.m. contest with Washington University-St. Louis.
