Pedram Tahmi-Masoleh would be the first one to tell you it's not about individual accolades.
As long as the Vikings win, the sophomore midfielder is content with the result.
But Friday night in a non-conference tilt with visiting Olivet College, Tahmi-Masoleh had an individual performance worthy of an instant classic as he recorded seven total shots, three on goal, and scored a pair of goals in leading North Park to a 3-2 comeback victory over the Comets.
The victory moved North Park to a perfect 5-0 on the season, and it gave coach Born's group its hottest start since the 2009 campaign.
North Park was stuck in a rut to start the game as weather conditions were nearly unplayable with a driving rain and wind throughout. But to Olivet's credit, the Comets used the situation to their advantage. Olivet tallied its first goal in the ninth minute when Cory Werner-Hoskins scored off a Jared Wilson-Santos assist. OC then moved ahead 2-0 just before halftime when Gregory Petty was awarded a penalty kick after being taken down in the box.
The Vikings however didn't back down. In fact, the adjustments they made from the first half to the second proved costly for the visitors. North Park trimmed the deficit in half when Tahmi-Masoleh tallied his first goal on a penalty kick after Olivet was dealt a red card in the 46th minute, and as the Vikings continued to build the pressure, their confidence and resiliency followed. A goal from Przemyslaw Zabielski off an assist from Fredrik Greiff in the 52nd minute tied the game at 2-all, and Tahmi-Masoleh buried the game-winner off the left side six minutes later after taking a feed from freshman Kebba Sanyang.
In all, North Park recorded 26 shots, 13 in each half, and had 12 shots on goal while limiting Olivet to only six shots on goal. Werner-Hoskins led Olivet with five shots as the Comets moved to 1-2 on the year.
North Park returns to action Saturday, Sept. 20 when the Vikings take a West Coast trip to UC-Santa Cruz for a 3 p.m. contest with the Banana Slugs.
